Cannot Logon from Windows Home Server web page RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have an issue logging into my windows home server through the main website remotely through the internet or locally on my network.  I believe I have configured everything correctly. I have forwarded ports 80, 443 , 3389, and 4125. I have checked in the windows server console that everything is set up correctly.

I am able to get to my site: http://lastname.homeserver.com/home, but when I click the logon link, I get the following error "internet explorer cannot display the webpage".

    Any ideas?

  • Try "https://" instead of "http://" and see if you get the same results.

Also, try running the Remote Connection wizard from the WHS Console.  Let me know what the results are.

  • I tried using https and the browser does not even display the home page. I get the same error - "internet explorer cannot display the webpage"

In the WHS Console under Settings - Remote Access, it says Remote access is available.

I also tried http://WHS_IP_ADDRESS/home and I was able to log into the server.

Could my ISP be blocking https requests??

  • In WHS Console, where is says Remote Access is available, look a little further down and click on Details, then Refresh.  What does it show?

Go to https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2 and run shields up to see if ports 80, 443, 3389, and/or 4125 are open.  If those ports were set up correctly as stated in your original post, they should show as open.  If they show closed or stealth, then you have not forwarded them properly or your ISP is blocking.

What router are you using?  What modem?  Name and model number for both please.
