Downloaded updates to Office 2003 Professional Edition Upgrade, now it says it's not genuine RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've been using this Office 2003 with no problems, but recently went to the Microsoft website to update, so I could open, for example Word 2007 files.  The download was successful, but now when Excel or Word opens, I get the message that it's not genuine.  I ran the Genuine Advantage diagnostic tool, and here are the results for Windows, and for Office.  This looks to be the key part:

    Office Status: 114 Blocked VLK 2
    Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 - 114 Blocked VLK 2

    thanks

  • Hello James646,

    Here is a snippet of your mgadiag report:

    OGA Data-->
    Office Status: 114 Blocked VLK 2
    Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 - 114 Blocked VLK 2
    Microsoft Office Project Professional 2003 - 100 Genuine
    Microsoft Office Visio Professional 2003 - 100 Genuine
    OGA Version: Registered, 2.0.48.0

    Right now your computer has a Volume Licensing installation of Office 2003 Professional installed, but this installation was done with a now-blocked Volume Licensing Key (VLK).  Microsoft blocks VLKs when the key has been lost, stolen, compromised, or when the associated Volume Licensing Agreement is no longer in effect, or if otherwise misappropriated for software piracy reasons.

    Additionally, I noticed that the remaining Office 2003 programs installed on the computer (Visio Professional 2003 and Project Professional 2003) are all Volume Licensing editions of these programs.  Having this many Office family volume licensing programs installed would lead me to believe that you may be using these programs because of your association with a larger business, educational, or governmental organization.  If so, please contact the tech support people within the organization to have them help you with correcting the Blocked VLK situation.

    If your use of these programs is not associated with a larger business, educational, or governmental organization, and you purchased these programs thinking that they were retail licenses for these programs to be sold to individual consumers, it is likely that you are a victim of software piracy or counterfeiting.  As an individual consumer, you should never have been sold Volume Licensing (VL) materials such as these VL installation CDs, and you certainly should not have received a Blocked Product Key.  You should have been sold Genuine retail licensed software.

    If so, your first course of action is to confront your seller with this information and demand either a full refund or to receive the genuine software you paid for.

    If the seller refuses to help, please file a piracy report at www.microsoft.com/piracy.  Also, depending upon whether you received "high quality" counterfeit materials, you may qualify for the Office Complimentary Offer or for the Office Genuine Advantage discounted offer.  Please see the FAQ here:  http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/downloads/FAQ.aspx?displaylang=en#ID0EKNAC  If you think that you qualify for the Genuine Office Offer, apply for the Offer thru the Learn More Online link that the OGA Notifier is displaying.

    One other possibility is that at one time your computer did have a Genuine installation of Office installed, but for some reason it was replaced with the current installation which is nongenuine.  This could have happened if you took your computer to a repair shop and they reinstalled Windows and/or some or all of your programs.  You Get Genuine once again by uninstalling the current nongenuine installation of Office and using your Genuine Microsoft hologrammed Office installation CDs, along with the genuine Product Key found on your Office Edition's Certificate of Authenticity, to put back the genuine installation of Office you may have already had on the computer. .
