Vista...what else! RRS feed

  • Question

  • So now that I've bought 2 new computers for my kids for Christmas, how do I get rid of the crappy vista and get xp on my machine so they can play their online games? I checked dozens of sites for answers and nothing works. At this point, I'm ready to take the machines back since they are unusably for what they were purchased for. The compatiblity setting does nothing - setting the programs to admin does nothing - and why does it keep asking me over and over if I give permission for a site to access my computer if I've already answered yes? Just how stupid is this program if it can't remember anything?

I really see no point in having the vista and would expect that since microsoft put out the program that doesn't work, they should be willing to set me up with XP which works fine on my older computer.

Can you exactly state the online games that do not work with Vista?  Please provide links to the games--thanks!

  • World of Warcraft

    Flyff - flyff.gpotato.com

    Silkroad - silkroadonline.com

Last Chaos & Project Torque - both at ariagames.com

That's all I've tried so far. Warcraft does work but not WOW

  • FlyFF and WoW should work.

I have both games. Updating WoW is a pain though since it ask you to be a Admin, even though you are logged onto it.

  • I've turned off every security feature. I've unloaded everything I can. And I've done all the compatibility checks that are recommended on every site I could find. The only thing I haven't done is upgrade the ram. From what I heard from a few people, Vista is a huge memory hog. How much ram do you have and do you thing this would help?

  • I can give you a pretty extensive list that have problems...

-Steam, the shell like program that boots HL2 crashes at random during larger updates.
-Nexius runs but it also crashes at random, I suspect it is a memory handling issue.
-Counterstrike has some serious graphics/server issues that require a complete steam shutdown/restart

There are quite a few more that users have submitted to me through my webpage.
