i ran the diag. and everything passed. the only errors i see after validating is "The Windows product key installed on this computer was not assigned by Microsoft. You may be a victim of counterfeit software" i am also recently finding out that my cd had a sticker on it,where as microsofts is embedded. so what i decided to do was report it,i filled out the form and i sent the cd to microsoft this afternoon.

Hello Dragon66c,
Here is the last three grouping of characters in the Product Key (PK) being reported by the mgadiag utility: KGG6P-MH84R-9VVXY
Since you are showing as having a full retail XP package, your PK will NOT be printed on the Certificate of Authenticity sticker affixed to the computer, instead, retail PK are printed on a PK label affixed to theCD holder folder inside the retail box. Compare this to what is printed on your yellow-orange Product Key sticker on the folder inside your retail box.
Do they match?
NOTE: do NOT post the full product key printed on the PK sitcker.

yes they do match.from what was reported and what is on the sticker. i built this system myself and when i entered the coa when installing windows xp pro, i triple checked to make sure i didn't have a typo.Friday, June 26, 2009 6:19 PM

Hello dragon66sc,
I'm showing 6 Activations (on the same computer) for this Product Key. All 6 activations occured on 06/25/2009 between 6:50:14 PM and 7:13:46 PM. $of the Activations were done over the Internet and 2 were done by Phone and all appear to have been completed successfully.
Are you still experiencing an issue?
Thank you,

yes i am still having an issue.
steve
i tried to activate it over the net probably 4 times and it kept saying something like couldnt activate try again later.then i did click on phone once then backed out the first time. then i made the call to microsoft and ran their series of numbers and it activated. but when i go to do a windows update it goes through a genuine windows validation check and it fails, wont let me do any updates. but,my automatic updates is turned on, and it updates fine that way.i forgot it also says "The product key found on this computer was not assigned by Microsoft" the coa does look like the samples they show here on this site. i did check the cd in the windows comparison guide and it does look genuine. is it possible when i installed it i did have a typo in the product key?even though i triple checked. should i try and reinstall? or is there anywhere on my pc that i can pull up the complete coa key? i m finding a few other people that bought windows xp pro from the same place are having the same issue. one person replied to me and said something about the newer motherboard network drivers are not compatible with this version of windows xp pro? could that be right?
thanks- Edited by dragon66sc Sunday, June 28, 2009 2:45 PM

Hi dragon66sc,
First off, go to http://microsoft.com/genuine/diag and click the start diagnostic button. The site will ensure your XP is setup to be able to Validate correctly. If any problems are fopund, it will either give you the option to have the site correct the issue for you or it will provide directions on how to correct it yourself.
After you pass the diag click the Validate Windows button.
If it doesn't pass validation, record any error codes or messages provided on the page. Then rerun and post the Diagnosic Report (so I can see if anything has changes since the last one you posted).
Thanks,

hello, this is a final follow up. july 20th, i did receive a free windows xp pro from microsoft for sending in the copy that i am pretty sure was a pirate copy. the person that sold me the pirate copy on ebay did give me a full refund as well, after i explained that i was turning it into microsoft. he also refunded at least 3 more people involved in the same situation. he offered no apology, just my money back. i guess i made out. installed and activated no problems.
Thanks again for you assitance.
