Synchronizing CRM contacts into an Outlook 2010 contact category RRS feed

  • Question

  • Is it possible to synchronize CRM contacts into one category of contacts in Outlook?  Using CRM 2011 On Premise and Outlook 2010.  Have multiple Outlook contacts organize by Category.  Want to create a new Outlook category for CRM contacts.  Can I sync to this CRM contact category?

    Thanks,

    Sheryl

  • Hi,

Do you mean synchronizing CRM contacts other then main Contacts in Outlook and sync  CRM items in different folders instead of the main contact folder? this is not possible through the out of the box functionality.

You may use VBA Code/Macros or Visual Stduio Tools for Office (included Outlook) addins can help you with this requirement.

CRM automatcially creates few user created fields with every tracked contact that includes:

    CRM EntryID, crmId, crmorgid, crmParentAccountId

So you can identify such CRM created user fields in contacts using VBA Code/Macros or even can create contatcs filter which has value in crmid or even can create filter to identify and then manually placed into another folder.

  • Hi,

I mean synchronizing My Contacts (in CRM) into a particular Outlook folder.  For this user, contacts are organized using Outlook Categories. The Category feature enables you to name the folder and assign it a colour.  In this scenario, I would create a new Outlook folder called CRM contacts.  I want to sync CRM to this folder.

It sounds that I cannot direct the synchronization to a particular Outlook category.

  • Hi,

CRM will always synchronize with the outlook contacts main folder Contacts and there is no supported CRM SDK development available to syncrhonize Contatcs into a particular folder/category.
