relationship entities 1:N N:1 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello expert in crm,

I would like to know if it's important the order of the creation of the relation.

I realised that creation a N:1 relation in my account entity, created automaticly the 1:N relation in my country entity.

So my question is, do I have to create the relation in my country entity 1:N or is it the same thing ????

    Thanks for your answer,

    Johana

  • It's the same relationship looked at from either end. You don't need to create it twice

  • Ok but maybe I don't get then, because somebody talk to me about a parent entity and child entity.

Is it not important if you create it from one entity or from the other one???

    reading that ?? http://rc.crm.dynamics.com/rc/2011/en-us/online/5.0/Help/ug_cust_HierarchicalRelationships.htm

    sorry it's not very clear.

  • Hi,

Yes you have to create 1:N relationship from Country entity to every other entity where you want to select country from a lookup. After creating the relationship make sure to add teh lookup field on the form and publish entity cusotmizations.

By creating a relationship 1:N will create a look field of parent entity into the child entity. In this case parent entity is Country and child will be the asosiated entity could be Account, Contact, Product, Lead, Opportunity, Custom Entity etc..

  • Thanks for this answer,

but if i start the realtion by creating N:1 in Account entity, does it means Account is the parent or the child????

Because creating the N:1 relationship from account, will create the 1:N relationship in country...?? so in this case, if i'm starting by creating the relation N:1 in account.

    Thanks for this.

  • Hi,

If you will create a N:1 relationship from Account entity the this mean that Country will be the parent and Account will be the Child record.

In this case Country field will be available into the Account entity.

  • Not sure,

I juste created a N:1 relationship in account entity with country.

I 've then lookup field available in account for the country entity.

so doing that, i've my lookup country in account entity. and my parent entity is still account, not laboratory?

  • Hi,

I just not read it carefully (were talking before 1:N thats why have not concentrated on relaitonship whther N:1 or 1:N), yes while create a N:1 relationship from Account entity will create a Lookup field of Country into the account entity, Country field will become a parent and Account field will become a child.

  • Ok so thanks a lot but that will be my LAST QUESTION:

IF I WOULD HAVE created the relationship from COUNTRY 1:N, would that be the same??? I mean, would that mean Country is a parent and Account a child???

(I think yes I just want an external opinion)

  • Yes it would be same, country would be a parent and Account would be the child.

  • Thanks a lot.

So actually parent is just the entity holding the 1:N relationship and the child is the N:1 relationship.

But It's just wierd to me parent and child name. It sounds to me like POO with a class which is the parent which his child.

Relationship between entites is very like in conceptual modal, 1:N represent to me, a relation between table.

Primary entity sounds to me more familiar for a relationship instead of parent entity.
