Installation/Configuration of Project Server 2010? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I already did some search on the Net regarding a good installation/configuration step-by-step guidance for Project Server 2010 Beta but couldn't find much suitable.
Anyone can help me where to find this kind of info?

    Many thanks.

  • Is this what your refering to or are you talking about the roles in Project Server that will sync to AD?
Normally the groups are determined on the roles you will have in Projet Server.

To successfully complete a deployment of Microsoft Project Server 2010, the following permissions are required:

    • Domain Administrator — Required to set up two domain groups for report authors and report viewers.
    • SQL Server Administrator — Required for various Microsoft SQL Server and Analysis Services configuration tasks as denoted in Configure SQL Server and Analysis Services (Project Server 2010).
    • Exchange Administrator — Required to configure Microsoft Exchange Server for Exchange integration.
    • Farm Administrator – Required to install Microsoft Project Server 2010 and configure a Microsoft Project Web Access site.

On a Demo [VM] server I am using one account that does all.........

  • Yes thats what I use for Demo, but there are alot of accounts recommended.
E-mail me at rob@rejcompany.com and I'll send a doc I have of the accounts that are required as best practice.

You can also try our installation chapters for the Beta Build as an independent source of guidance:

  • Many thanks for the info.

One last question: I'm confused as what (AD) Groups (AD) Users I should create?  The info I found on installing PS2010 was not clear to me: sometimes you see everything installed as Administrator, sometimes you see a special account for SQL Server install, ...
What are the recommendations/best practices related to Groups and Users?

    Thanks.

  • Thanks.

I meant the deployment groups/users (not the roles in Project Server).

I would also do the install/config for a demo/dev [VM] server. I suppose when you say one account that does all, does that mean the standard (Domain) Administrator account?
