CRM 2011 - Importing Security Roles for specific Business Units RRS feed

  • I wouldn't say it's by design, rather it's a dependency issue. The problem is, in order to the BU-attached roles to be able to import to the target environment, the BU has to exist first before the role import. However CRM doesn't currently support exporting/importing of business units. This is just a theoretical thinking, there are probably more details that need to be managed by CRM platform in order to properly support the import/export of child buisness unit level roles. 

    CRM2011 solution framework is not aware of business unit either.

    I went through a similar process of doing this in one of my previous projects. It was too much headache, so I later decided that all roles should be attached to root business unit, which saved me a lot of trouble. 

    There was a utility that can do this, it might be this one, but I am not sure at this moment. You can give it a try to see if it does. It's a tool designed for CRM4, but I think it will work with CRM 2011.

  • I just realised that, we can export only Root Business Unit level Security Roles !!!. So even if I create Security Roles on child BU level I cannot export it as CRM Solution :(

    Is this by Design or known Issue?
