Upgrade from Trial to OEM - No Server Reinstall Option RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I am currently running the trial version of WHS but I've not got the OEM version so I want to reinstall. However, when I boot off the WHS disk I do not get the 'Reinstall' option. I have 3 disks, 1 sys, 2 data, all 3 are shown in the setup screens but my sys disk wasn't the first one in the list. I moved that disk into the Channel 0 Master position so now it shows first but still no joy.

    Any suggestions?

  • Hi James,
is it possible to change the disk controller mode in the Bios to be IDE compatible?
If so, try this first, since native SATA drivers are often causing various troubles in the setup area (WHS is based on Windows Server 2003 and has no direct support for SATA hardware, so during setup some conditions to offer a reinstall may not be met).

Other people seem to have attempted successfully starting the reinstall with only the system drive attached and attached the remaining disks after first reboot.

    Best greetings from Germany
