How can i use the windows update service?

Question
-
Ok, my friend sold me a computer two years ago which has windows 7 pre installed with two years of my information. However it said two days ago i am running a pirated version which i didn't no before, i thought i was paying for a legit version. It's worked fine for two years and all of a sudden it tells me this, so i go to windows update and it says the service has stopped working, is there anything i can do to make it work again. Please don't give me replies about pirated software and buy a legit copy and crap because that would require formatting my PC, it has two years of information for my work which would be nearly impossible for me to regain with a backup. Is there some program or something to install to keep my updates going or anything?Wednesday, August 28, 2013 1:19 PM

To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool
(download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.

Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine (or inside the battery compartment), but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!

A) It might not be pirated. It could just be corrupted files. You best bet at this point is to go here and read the information, then come back and put your results here.
B) If it is pirated software, then no, there is nothing that you can install to keep the updates running, and rightly so.
C) If it is pirated software, you should upgrade to legit, and do not have to lose your data. Just back it up to an outside source before starting.
You don't want to lose your work in a format? Well that is kind of how the software engineer feels about the huge amount of hours they put in to produce the product that is the OS. If you are running a counterfeit OS, no one here is going to feel sorry for you that your updates no longer work, nor will they help you to get them working again. But again...you don't even know if it is counterfeit yet. I would run the diagnostic and find out for certain one way or the other.
