Live OneCare Always Says Auto updates turned off after reboot

Question
-
I have been using OneCare on my three office computers (Vista Ultimate) with little problem. However, last Thursday when I turned my laptop on the OneCare tray icon was read. Checking it, I found that it indicated that Auto-updates needed to be turned on. I did and the icon turned green indicating that all was ok. Stayed that way the rest of my sesson. However, the next day and every time I have rebooted the system since I've had to repeat the process. I did notice that the icon initially came up green but turned red by the end of the boot process or shortly thereafter.I have run anti-virus and anti-spam scans with no erros being indicated.Noted that while Live OneCare icon was red, and indicating that auto updates needed to be enabled, Windows Security Center shows automatic updates enabled and functioning. No problems on the other computers.Any ideas?MichaelTuesday, July 1, 2008 2:33 PM

This has been reported previously. Most people that encounter this problem see it randomly. I've seen it rarely on my own PCs, but I've seen it. However, there have been reports of it always showing as off in OneCare at reboot. I don't know of any solution for this other than to click the button in OneCare to turn it on, which typically makes OneCare happy again. You may want to contact support to see if there is any new information on a solution that I'm unaware of.

Nope, you're most certainly not imagining things. I wish that I could tell you why OneCare has this problem. I don't know what OneCare is looking at to determine the status of AU. I suspect that it may be a registry setting or perhaps something in the WMI database used by Windows Security Center.
This may be grasping at straws, but perhaps the WMI database repair could do the trick at resolving it....

Steve,Thanks for the link. I may try it in the future. Strangly, after rebooting for the third time today it came up green and thus far has stayed that way. Nothing has been changed that I am aware of. Go figure! Thanks Again,MichaelTuesday, July 1, 2008 7:02 PM

Yes, it is a strange bug. As I said, I've had it happen myself on several machines for no apparent reason, but it didn't happen on each reboot thereafter as it did for you, but others have had the same issue of the recurring warning on each reboot.

Well, I guess I'm not alone either.
This just happened to me today. To my memory, this isn't occuring every reboot. It seems more like every reboot after there has been an Automatic Update. (That is how it played out today.)

Joel,I am experiencing this on only one pc. All are set to autoupdate. OneCare intermittently comes up red and says that autoupdate needs to be turned on. However vista security center and windows update show auto update on and working. This is confusing because I don't know now if autoupdate is really turned off or not or if 0neCare is giving a false readlng..I have uninstalled and reinstalled 0neCare sevaral times to no avail.Once autoupdate is turned on throngh OneCare everything goes green for the rest of the session. I noted the other day that it would stay that way (stay green) even after numerous reboots. However if I shut my systom down instead of just restarting it would come up red again or turn red beforeg the boot process completed.I have disabled all startup programs but no change. I have not added any new software or uninstalled anything for weeks prior to the time thatt his started happening.MichaelFriday, July 11, 2008 1:19 AM
