Tooltip shows empty RRS feed

  • Question

  • When I check Transact-SQL forum's tooltip in Google Chrome by hovering my mouse over the forum's name it comes as little empty box.

  • I have seen this behavior occasionally in a Forums test environment when a build is being deployed or something similarly disruptive is happening.  I have never seen it in production though.  If you find a reproducible case, please post it.

The tooltip contents are retrieved asynchronously.  Presumably if the background call to get the contents responded slowly or encountered an error that could cause the tooltip contents to not display.

  • I can't reproduce this.  Do you have more precise repro steps?

  • I was reproducing this consistently earlier today but not anymore (as soon as I posted that message the problem corrected itself).

  • I think I've seen it before, though, where you mouse over the forum name and the forumDetailTip box is wide, but only a couple of white pixels high.  I, too, have found it to be an ephemeral problem.  If I recall correctly, it resolved after navigation to another page.  So there may be a bug in the javascript.

  • I am now seeing this problem in 'Suggestions and Feedback' forum. I was able to reproduce it twice - both times the tooltip came as narrow white line.

  • Thanks Naomi.  What I meant by a reproducible case was a set of repro steps (with context information like OS, browser version, forums URL you were viewing, logged in/out if that matters) that another person might be able to use to reproduce the same issue.  It would also be useful to know if a simple CRTL+REFRESH fixes it.

  • I am seeing this problem again now in MSDN & TechNet profile recognition forum. I am using Windows 7 and Google Chrome and I try to describe the series of steps as I recall them.

From my gmail account I found you replied in my thread in that forum, so I opened that thread from that alert email. After I replied in that thread and finished, I started to look at other threads in that same forum. After I read a few, I noticed this problem - no tooltip.

Right now I have this link opened http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/90d24445-2ef7-49ca-923b-1aeabcd27702/wiki-achievements-not-granted and I see no tooltip.
