SyncToy2 unable to detect changes, locks up drive RRS feed

  • Question

  • Recently installed Synctoy to sync a network drive folder to a Linksys network storage link usb external drive folder. Synctoy reports Unable to detect changes and aborts. The menu shows that the sync has never been run. Subsequently, Windows Explorer is unable to open the Linksys drive. I have to go to Task manager and kill Explorer, the restart the Linksys adapter, then restart Explorer.

I didn't met problem like this, just share out some ideas you may take a trying.

    1. Restart machine.
    2. Please make sure your windows explorer without any problem to access Network drive folder and usb external dirve folder first.
    3. Run sync again.
    4. If met the same problem, please share out your LOG(click menu File->View LOG)

    Good luck.

  • MSDN search for the error code resulted in following info.

    System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x80070040): The ...
Thread: System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x80070040): The specified network name is no longer available. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070040)

Are your paths defined for the folder pair still valid and accessible through Window's explorer ?

  • Yes, no problems accessing through Explorer. I can even do "Offline File" synchronization with my laptop to either of the individual drives when I hook it up.
