Z order of new process window RRS feed

  • Question

  • Users download my application, run the .exe (an installer), the installer runs my application and exits without waiting for the application to start. The problem is that the application starts not on the top of the browser window, but below.

I checked with Spy++ that nor browser nor installer doesn't have WS_EX_TOPMOST window extended style, so this behaviour contradicts to behaviour described on the documentation: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/desktop/winmsg/window-features#z-order (New window must be shown on the top of the other windows of the same type)

    Any ideas?

If it matters, installer is NSIS-based and runs applicationwith ExecShell command
    Browser is Firefox
Application is QML based QT application

  • This really isn't a Windows development issue.  I suggest you pursue a resolution wherever NSIS is supported.
