Vista No longer genuine RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have an HP/Compaq laptop which came with Windows Vista pre installed, now it is saying that it is not genuine. I am unable to run any active x scripts on the machine (so it wont allow me to use the validation tool online) nor will it allow me to download the diag software. The options I get in the message box are "Buy a new product key" "Type a different product key" "Contact HP to help resolve the problem"

I have re-entered the product key from the base of the machine, but it is not being accepted, the "Contact HP" link comes up with help topic not found.

Also I am unable to access to the phone activation option, I have tried the slui options but to no avail, I have also tried the renaming of the tokens but am unable to do this as I get a message stating that access is denied.

    Many Thanks

At a guess, you're using Norton AntiVirus, in one of its incarnations? If so, then do yourself a great favour, and uninstall it, and then run the MGADiag tool - then post the resulting report.
To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool (download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
    Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.
