Study Guide for Excel 2003 Certificate RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello Everyone!

I'd like to prepare to get the Excel 2003 Certificate and have some questions.

I decided on this because I have 2003 version on my computer.  Is there a lot of difference between 2003 and 2007?

and would you please recommand me any study guide that I can get from bookstores?

I have a Excel course book from Thompson (Shelly Cashman Series).  Would it be enough guide for exam preparation?

Thank you so much for your help!

  • Hi Cole,

If I was you, I would go with 2007 or even 2010 which is already live (http://rubelkhan.wordpress.com/2010/07/06/mos-2010-exams-word-and-excel-is-now-live/)

There is no point of having certified in a software which is 7-8 years old. There is a big change from 2003 to 2007/2010 but you always can learn and ace the new staff such as ribbons etc.

As Maurice suggested which I agree, Step by Step is a great place to start.

    Hope this is helpful.

  • Hi,

Good for you trying for your excel certificate. There are actually two exams for 2003 for Excel and Word. They are standard and expert. So first go for the standard edition and then go for expert. There's not much study material around but there is some.

Experience is the keyword here. If you are familiar with excel you should do fine. Only thing is that you need to know the areas from which they will ask questions. You can find guidelines here:

    http://www.microsoft.com/australia/learning/mcp/officespecialist/requirements.mspx#OFFICE_03

Differences between 2003 and 2007? Sure there are differences i mean this was a complete new versions with the new name range manager, conditional formatting charting etc. So for these areas to tackle you also need experience. Get to know you way around in finding where everything is in the ribbon ad you should do fine. For 2007 there is only one exam there is no difference in standard and expert. You will find the split in Excel 2010 again so there will be a standard and expert again.

For studying the step by step series is often a good place to start.

Good luck on taking the exam ;-)
