Fonts in the "reply box" RRS feed

  • Question

  • When typing any reply (or right now, this post), the font is WAY smaller than it looks when submitted and part of the thread. The new Answers UI does just the opposite: There, the font in the box for replies or for entering a post is WAY bigger than the rest. Both solutions are less than ideal if you want to read what you type (or is that considered old-fashioned?). Is there any reason for those innovations, or is there a mistake on my part?

  • The fonts are different on different brands (technet vs msdn) and also different from the microsoft answers system which is a completely different system.  we can look at making these more consistent, but it will be a lower priority than some of our other work items planned. Thanks for the report.

As a follow up, each site has it's own brandings, and current plans are being made for style updates. So it's By Design. Even though the fonts look different, the interactions are all consistent across the sites.

    Thanks!

  • I'm not sure about your first link, as I'm not complaining about the normal font size of the (TechNet) forums. That one is ok for me, the one that bothers me is the font (newly) used when I'm entering something (a reply or a question). If the normal font is 9 or 10 pt, this one seems to be something like 6 pt (wild but approximate guess). At the "Answers" forums, where some design trainees aim for an UI Ugliness Award, it looks like 11 pt on normal display and 14 pt when you enter something. Your last link meets that (second) complaint, indeed.

To answer a quote with a quote, how about this: "Things alter for the worse spontaneously, if they be not altered for the better designedly." (Francis Bacon, 1597)
