SharePoint 2010 central Administration: SQL Exception Error RRS feed

    Hi,

    Some time before the sharepoint central administration website was working fine. Suddenly, when i click on any link in the home page, it has started me throwing the following error:

    "A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)

     

    Troubleshoot issues with Microsoft SharePoint Foundation.

    Correlation ID: f98b8e54-43e2-4366-8e0f-a0c204198d76"

    Because of this the PWA is also not workin and throwing the same exception.

    I understand that the connectionstring has got misplace somewhere, but i am not able to figure it out. I  also did re-run the sharepoint configuration wizard still no luck.

     

     

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi Amit,

    I restarted the SQL Server and also checked the ping status are positive.

    I didn't know what gone wrong, i was not even able to find the connection string that it was using.

    Ultimately I had to re-configure the whole share point farm, by re-creating the databases. I did this step since it was only a development server.

    Still I need to figure out the resolution, as I cannot re-configure the database when it become live...

    Hi.

    I would check to see if anyone has made any changes to your SQL Server, specifically renamed something or deleted a database? I would also look in the ULS logs to see if there is any more detail against that correlationid.

    All the databases are  intact. Also I checked the ULS logs against the correlation ID, still find the same error message. How can I find which connection string is breaking up.

    Hi,

    Options:

    1. Restart the SQL server & verify if the SQL server machine can ping the SharePoint server machine.

    2.  I would say to check with Network team to run the network diagnosis..Try pinging the SQL server machine from the Sharepoint central admin hosted machine.

    Let us know the outcome..
