network path not available RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi this is my setup- pc running win7 ultimate, 2x pc's running win xp pro, server running windows home server (home build -intel s3210sh server board, core 2 duo 1.8, 2 gig 800mhz ram ,5 hard drives) whs is running power pack 3. All connected via a 8 port gigabit switch (planet GSD 803) 1 port then goes to a 3g gateway (my wireless internet ) . Ok so here is my problem , when i copy data from 1 folder to another folder to my server (whs) it starts and then brings up a error message " there is a problem accessing \\homeserver1\videos - make sure u are connected to the network and try again "( homeserver1 is my server name ) this is on the win 7 machine . if i click try again tab it will copy all the way most of the times. On the xp machine the error message says "cannot copy -the file name-:the specified network name is no longer available", if i click ok ,the only option the message goes away and all stops. so i decided to go straight to the server and do it from there only to find it does it as well (i did not think that was possible even ) as i am copying file from 1 folder to another folder on the server .How the ____ can i loose network paths or names within the server. on the xp machine i do this via whs shared folder ( as whs runs as a headless machine), on win7 i use the network properties. please help i don't know what to look for anymore. I have Google tried the latest network drivers, When i go to "the network status properties " of the server it show its connected for hours at thet point, so the connection has not dropped, but i cannot move or copy from 1 folder to another folder on the server. I could maybe understand a network issue if i tried to copy from 1 pc to another, but this is copying /moving on folders on the serverI have notice that this happens more often while im streaming a video (via my Xbox using it as a extender ) the video streams is also hookery sometimes , maybe i just don't understand this whs operating system so good greetingsWolfman

It sounds to me like a problem with the network component of your server (whether it's the NIC, the driver, the network cable or the port in your router/switch it's hard to say).  You might try swapping out parts (one at a time) and see if it helps.

  • thanks for helping , ok lets look at this i can understand the network problem if you can not copy between pc's . But where my problem lies is as follow im am trying to move data from one folder on the server to another folder on thye same server , in other words whs comes with a few default folders out ec: video, software, music, and so on then i created more of my own like "tv shows" " blu ray" and so on. So if i copy or move data from lets say the bluray folder to the video folder on the same server im then now and then ( not always ) but alot get the error message network path not found , but im not moving data from 1 pc to another pc so no data is going passed my switch or for that matter even through my network port , becuase its going from a hard drive or drives to another hard drive in the same machine . so how is that possible
