Another Windows is not genuine problem RRS feed

  • Question

  • I purchased my copy of Windows 7 from Office Depot.  Did a clean install on a new drive.  It worked fine for about a month and now tells me it's not genuine.  I've tried to reactivate it using the online tool but it won't take it again.  I've reactivated it over the phone a couple times but it doesn't last.

    Here's the diagnostic:

    Error Code:  0xC004F00F

The Software Licensing Server reported that the hardware ID binding is beyond level of tolerance.

The hardware has changed or the drivers were updated on the system.

This can happen if you do a lot of updates to drivers and/or hardware over a short period - such as just after installing clean.

Hopefully telephone activation should work - if it continues to revert to non-genuine status, then you may have a hardware problem.
