Winsows One Care cannot find backup device RRS feed

  • Hello all


    I've been using One Care to backup my files to an external hard drive for a while. Today I replaced the external hard drive with a new Iomega drive.


    When I instigtaed the backup process, One Care formatted the drive and wrote some directory files to it. However when I try to get One Care to do a system backup it scans the files on my system and then keeps coming back with: Cannot find your current backup drive.


    The drive is present (connected)  and working. I'm wondering if it's looking for the previous external hard drive, even though it just formatted the new one. Anyone have any ideas as to how I can:


    A) delete the old hard drive's device driver

    B) tell One Care to use the new external drive.

  • I believe that you will need to do the following since you have changed the backup destination. In effect, you will be performing a new full backup to the new drive.

    Open OneCare

    Click Change Settings

    backup tab

    Click change settings in the lower left

    Make sure that the first screen for Centralized Backup has "No Centralized backup" selected

    Click your PC on the left.

    Uncheck the selection for "Turn on backup for this PC."

    Click Next and save the revised plan.


    Go back to the backup tab and click Change Settings in the lower left once again.

    Select your PC and click.

    Click Turn on backup

    Select the change location link and select the drive you want to use for backup

    Modify the schedule as desired for "When"

    Select the file types as desired for "What"

    Click next and save the revised plan with the new selection.
