Confirm my copy of Windows is not compromised RRS feed

  • Question

  • Good evening,

    A man continuously called claiming to be from Windows Service Centre. He said my Windows Customer I.D. number had been hacked and copied by at least 27 other users from around the world. He then stated that if I didn’t confirm my Windows Customer I.D. and arrange for a new number then my Internet and computer will be blocked.

    I refused to acknowledge or deny that the number he gave me was the number for one of my computers. He would not confirm what version of Windows I was running.

    He claimed the following were his company’s details:

                Windows Service Centre

                Dallas, Texas, U.S.A.

                Ph. 18883177772

     He claimed this was my Windows Customer I.D.  number:

                00C04FD7D062

    ==================    =================

    I have several older computer collecting dust and I suspect he may have some information relating to one of these computers. I suspect this to be a scamming/hacking attempt to get access to either my computer or internet. Do you know if there are multiple users on this account and should I take any specific steps to protect my computer/internet system.

    Regards,

    Lance.

  • Yep, you've been scammed. If that bogus caller ever calls back, tell him you have an Apple computer and he'll hang-up immediately.
