Splitting SQL Reporting Services from SQL Database Server on CRM 2015 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Does anyone have recommendations or suggestions on splitting SQL Reporting Services and the SQL Database Server with CRM 2015?  We're setting-up a CRM 2015 On Premises environment where the SQL Server databases will be in an Always on Availability Group, but I'd also like to setup a third server just for SQL Reporting Services to be used by CRM 2015.  With this would the Reporting Extension be installed on the SQL Report Server, the SQL Database Server, or both?  Or will CRM 2015 not work in this environment?  I have not found any best practices or suggestions on how to do this or if it won't work.

    Thanks---

  • Hi Sam,

reporting extension should be installed on ssrs server, more specifically where the reporting services are running.

we have setup mscrm_config database, _mscrm database and reporting databases on AO SQL server.

ssrs reporting services on another machine - reporting extension was installed on the ssrs server.

    regards,

  • Thanks Jithesh.  Did you have any issues setting-up or maintaining this environment?  This is exactly what I hope to do with the databases on two nodes using AG and a third server for SSRS.

    Take care --

  • Hi Sam,

No, We tested the setup on pre-prod environment and documented the steps (My second setup of AO, did it in previous company as well). During production implementation, it was very easy. its been few months now and no issues at all. Failover happens seamlessly. We are pretty pleased of the results. Please let me know if you need any additional help.

    Cheers,

    Jithesh
