Hello!
I have problem restoring backup from my Windows Home Server to PC based on Intel D945GCLF2 motherboard
with Windows 7 Ultimate RTM installed.
Problem description...
During booting D945GCLF2 PC from "Windows Home Server Home Computer Restore CD"
at first LED lights on netwok card integrated on motherboard are blinking.
But after "Windows Home Server Home Computer Restore CD" starts, LED diodes on
motherboard do not blinking any more.
Dialog on monitor show that "Realtek RTL8168/8111 Family PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.0)"
is detected, but LED diodes are still not blinking.
I tried to install network driver from USB stick but again but LED diodes on network card are still not blinking.
Of cource because network is not working I can't restore backup from my Windows Home Server.
Please, any suggestions...
Thank you!

First, did you copy the drivers for that client from your server to a USB flash drive, then use those drivers during the restore process? Second, if you are restoring a 64-bit OS, you might need the 32-bit version of the driver for your NIC (the restore environment is 32-bit only). Third, there are some issues with RealTek drivers. See the FAQ post: How to update RealTek NIC drivers during Bare Metal Restore for details.
Hello!
Yes I copied drivers from server to USB drive but it did not help. I am restoring 32-bit OS.
I tried solution form FAQ post but there is probem.
I downloaded drivers from Realtek site and copied them to USB drive.
Booted client PC from "Restore CD" with USB drive connected.
But when I click button "Install drivers..." and then "Scan", after some time apearas message "No drivers were found for your hardware."
On USB drive I have folder "Driver_XP_5736_0921" with files
netrtle.cat
Netrtle.inf
Rtenic.sys
Rtenic64.sys
Rtenicxp.sys
RtNicprop32.DLL
RtNicprop64.DLL
Founded solution :)
In above procedure I tried to use Windows Vista drivers (Driver_Vista_6227_0921) and it worked :)
I can now connect to my WHS :)
Thank you for your help.

I was trying to restore a Win7 64-bit PC with a backup on WHS 2003. I used the Vista and WinServer 2008 drivers. It took me all night to figure this out so here's some tips that would have helped me! Use the PC Restore disk that comes with WHS. If you don't have one, you can download an iso file from Microsoft and double click it to burn it using your DVD drive software (I did this before realizing I already had one!) Put the DVD in your drive and restart your computer. Set your boot options to boot from the DVD (watch screen prompts when starting). Wait a long time while it boots. When you get to the screen that lists the drivers, check for a yellow flashing light where your ethernet cable is plugged into your computer (restore will not work on wireless! Plug cable from router or modem into your computer). If no light, you'll need to get drivers for your Network Interface Card (NIC). You get the model number and type from the restore screen (mine was Realtek RTL8168/8111 Family PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC). For mine, I went to the Realtek site, then downloads, communications network ICs, Network Interface Controllers, then match your NIC card. On the site, mine was under the 10/100/1000M Gigabit Ethernet > PCI Express > Software, then download the Vista and WinServer 2008 drivers. Unzip them to a USB drive. On the recovery screen, hit the scan button. If it works right, the driver name will change in the Network Devices list and the yellow light where your Ethernet cable plugs into your computer will start flashing. If no flashing light, the drivers are wrong. Try other drivers before continuing. Once you continue without the light flickering it won't work and you'll have to reboot and start over. I did that lots of times before I found the right drivers. The posts above eventually helped me figure this all out. Hopefully these extra directions will help someone else get it done faster!Monday, November 11, 2013 6:26 AM
