Question about Vista activation time. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I have a question about the activation in Windows Vista...

    Here 's the story:

4 months ago I installed Vista Business (which i got via MSDN) and I activated it properly and averything worked perfectly. But I decided to go back to Windows XP because of the driver issues back then.

2 weeks ago i installed Vista Business again and was asked to activate it again, because I upgraded my memory and changed my Hard Drive in the time between the 2 installs...

But then I got a message saying that my key was in use.

I uninstalled Vista Business and went shopping for Vista Home Premium, which I also activated without any problems...

But now I 'm willing to switch to XP Pro again - I'm a weird guy, I know :-)

Now the question is: When I install Vista Home Premium again a couple of months later, will Windows state that my key is in use again?

For your info: I 'm not going to change any hardware on my pc, and I bought the Home Premium Upgrade version (not OEM).

Hoping for a clear answer from you professionals :-D

    Thanks in advance!

Yes, it will if you try internet activation. However it will allow you to attempt PHONE activation if its the same PC (but slightly different hardware). You can easily telephone activate in under 3-5 minutes, however Smile.

  • Thanks for the info, now I feel confident to install my good old XP again without facing a surprise within a few months!

    Thank you Phil!
