  • Question

  • I have a new computer with Windows XP and Office 2007.  In order to have an English spell checker in my Outlook (the only one available was in French!), I had to load the dictionary from the Office 2003 software I had on my previous computer.  Now when I try to download a template into Office 2007, I am not able to do so.  I receive a message stating that my Office 2003 is not genuine.   It is genuine (purchased with an older computer) and my Office 2007 is certainly genuine.  How can I download the template into Office 2007?

  • Belle Louise,

Thank you for contacting the Office Genuine Advantage (OGA) program forum. In order to receive the best support, we request all users to initially run the Microsoft Genuine Advantage Diagnostic Tool.  This will try and identify the individual issue you may be experiencing.  Please provide a brief synopsis describing your customer scenario, including any dialogue, error messages, or codes. Error codes can be found in the lower left hand corner of most Genuine Advantage Web pages when an error is encountered.

By clicking the link below, you will download the Microsoft Genuine Advantage Diagnostic Tool (MGADT).  Then click the Run button. Then click the Run button again. Then click the Continue button to perform the diagnostic. The Windows tab should show, click the Copy button to paste your report to the clipboard.  Then paste the report into a New Post on this Forum by adding a post in it and pressing Ctrl V (to paste the text). Clicking the OK button will clear the Diagnostic window. Here is the download link:

Please tell us about the Certificate of Authenticity (COA) for your copy of Microsoft Office.

    1. What edition/version of Office do you have? To find your edition/version click Start, Word Options, Resources, About, there you should find the title of your edition.

    ·         Office Small Business

    ·         Office Professional

    2. Does it read "OEM Software" or "OEM Product" in black lettering?

    3. Or, does it have the computer manufacturer's name in black lettering?

    4. Please provide the customer scenario you are experiencing.

    5. DO NOT post the Product Key.

Not sure what to look for, see this page to reference your COA:

My Office 2007 is Home and Student.  It is Dell (OEM).  The product key listed on the Certificate of Authenticity is not the one shown above in the diagnostic.

My Office 2003 partial install (which I had to put on this computer so that I would have an English spell checker in Outlook for heavens sake  -  I would like to talk to the Microsoft genius that decided to only provide a French spell check capability in the Office 2007/Outlook application) is Basic Edition.  It is also Dell oem.  The product key is also not the same as that shown above.

I do not have a full copy of Office 2003 on this computer.  I only installed the dictionary to use with Outlook.  It is Office 2007 I am trying to download the template to.

  • My Office 2007 IS activated.  I am trying to download templates into Office 2007, but receive a message indicating I cannot download the templates because my Office 2003 is not activated.

The only portion of Office 2003 I installed on this computer is the proofing tools (so I would have an English spell checker in Outlook Express).  I am not able to open an activation wizard for Office 2003 in order to activate it because I did not install any Office 2003 applications - only the proofing tools.

I could delete the Office 2003 proofing tools and see if I can then download templates into Office 2007, but then I would only have a French spell check capability in Outlook Express !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Microsoft's recommendation for dealing with the fact that there is only a French spell checker in Outlook/Office 2007, is to download the Office 2003 proofing tools.  So I did.  Now I am unable to download templates into Office 2007.

    Any suggestions?
