WHS connector Software RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have read these forums and have read most of the posts regarding people having issues trying to get the connector software installed. I am one of those people. I haven't been able to get it to install, period. I have read through all of these posts and done what was said in them. I tried to run it from the server but that failed so I installed a version off the CD that was just labeled setup in the

E:\Windows Home Server Install DVD\WHS folder

That installed fine and told me that I needed to update my version of the connector software. When I did that I get "The files were not downloaded from your home server" Please verify that your network is configure properly. I have verified REPEATEDLY that the network is configured properly and working. Everything works but the connector software.

The version of the Connector software does not match the version of Windows Home Server (That is the last error I get when running the troubleshooter but it won't let me update it.)

I really like Home Server, been using it for about a week. Everything works from a website and remote control perspective but I find the connector software to be pretty flaky. If anyone can help me with this I would appreciate it.

    DHCP is enabled
Ports 55000 and 56000 are open on my router.
All Windows firewalls on all PC's are off and disabled.

I even turned off the firewall on the router but that didn't do anything.

I can map a drive to the folder on the server with the connector software and run the software in there but same thing, didn't work.

  • I got it, I finally got it. You need to have Auto updates and Backround Inteligence running in the backround. Once I turned that one everything OK.

  • Ports 55000 and 56000 do not to be "open" on the router.
Its also not recommended to make your systems vulnerable by disabling the protection against attacks from the Internet.

  • Now that I know why it didn't work in the first place I can re-enable the firewall on all PC's.

    Thank you,

Background Intelligence Transfer Service (aka BITS) is a service.  Right click on Computer, select Manage, go to Services, look for BITS, then start the service.
