Sending and limiting broadcast IM to large distribution List (400 users) RRS feed

  • Question

  • We'd like to use OCS to send a quick alert about urgent IT or other matters.  First, is there limit to the DL size (group expansion) supported by OCS/OC?  Second, can certain groups be restricted in who can send IM to them (the way Exchange has mail delivery restrictions for DL's)?  Third, is it possible to send a one-way IM (i.e., responses aren't delivered) -- like net send?

    Any insight would be appreciated.

  • You don't actually send any message to a list but to all members of that list as an IM Conference

Maximum number of users in IM Conference is 100 but can be increased

To my knowledge you can only set ACLs on Users and not on groups so NO WAY to restrict DLs

One way IM is also no option => Email may be a better solution for this problem and restrict the DL

  • Group Chat may be a good option for something similar to what you are wanting.

  • Hello,

Apologies for the late reply.  But a group chat is what I am trying to avoid.

I'd like something where I can send (broadcast or multicast) a message to x (5 to 20) number of user, with an option that they can send a private IM to me.

E.g. I am restarting the application server.  or Folks its time for our daily standup meeting.
