Server Reinstall not an option! RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I have to reinstall my Home Server due to many problems.
So in the installation all my disks are there, but the only option is new install!

What I did before the reinstall:

    - My drives (including boot drive) my be in different SATA ports from the ones I had when installed first time (I cant remember all the time I replace / add HD's).
    - There are 5 SATA HD's, 2 Firewire, 2 USB, 2 on another SATA Controller (all visible when running setup).
    - The homeserver may be installed from trial, then I bought the retail. I am not sure I can't remember if I did a fresh install.

The homeserver is 11TB storage, it will take me several weeks to transfer the data manually! :(

The system is bootable, so I can log in and check whatever needed.

Please tell me what I need to do in order to reinstall.

    kind regards,

  • If you can identify which physical drive is your system drive, you can try moving it to the lowest numbered SATA port (depending on your motherboard that could be port 0 or 1). You can also try configuring the BIOS to present your system disk as the first boot device.
I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)

  • So, it depends only on which port is the boot hd?
I will expiriment by changing ports...

    Thanks for your help...
