HP 6500 wireless printer and vista laptop RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am trying to connect a new laptop with windows vista to a HP 6500 wireless printer.  The printer is already on the home network (netgear router) and being used by another laptop and desktop with XP.  The new laptop with vista is being used successfully on the home network.  When trying to install the printer says something about the firewall and port 4277.  So how do we allow inbound and outbound for UDP port 4277 in windows vista?

  • Are you using Windows Live OneCare? if so, open OneCare, click change settings, firewall tab, advanced. Go to the Ports and protocols tab and click add. Enter a name for your rule, enter the port range as 4277 to 4277 and select UDP. The scope would be inbound and outbound. (I'm giving you the steps from memory, so some of the wording may be different on the add dialog).
If that doesn't work, please contact OneCare support.
