Central Backup, external Drive and MS Activesync RRS feed

  • I have my XP laptop set up for central backup to an external drive on my XP desktop PC.


    I have found that when my Windows 5.0 phone/PDA is sync-ing/charging overnight that Onecare cannot find the backup device.


    As I wish to both backup my Laptop daily and sync my calendar etc and charge the phone overnight, this is causing me problems.

  • I don't know why this would be, but thanks for reporting the issue. I'll bring it to the attention of the backup team. I wonder if the problem has to do with the fact that ActiveSync is setting up a network connection and causing OneCare's firewall to drop into restricted mode as if it were Public, which happens when multiple network adapters are present. What version of ActiveSync are you using? I assume that you are able to successfully backup if the phone is not connected, yes?

    Activesync is version 4.2.0 (build 4876). I will try 4.5 and see if it is any better.


    Yes, when Phone not linked to the PC then the backup works well.
