activation/validation of office 2003 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am running office 2003(student and teacher edition) on an Xp platform. Both products have been running happily for five years.

Recently  an icon popped up on the task bar advising me on how to activate office and how to validate.

Office will not validate as a message tells me that office has not been activated and yet ,when I check the product activation from within office, it tells me it has already been activated.

    Any ideas?

    Mel

  • Hi Stephen,

Just to follow up and say thank you for steering me in the right direction.

Telephone assistance from the desk site engineers was top class and their patience with this problem guided me to a successful resolution.

A big thanks to  Lebo  and Steven at the Johannesburg office.

I strongly advise forum readers to use their respective call centers for assistance in WGA validation issues

Ultimately, I had to uninstall/ re - install office 2003 (after checking various items).

It might be worth pointing out that Windows still lists the installed product as office 2003 standard edition(Control panel/add remove programs ).This is normal, apparently, but does cause some confusion
    for users, ie, me.

    Thanks once again,

    Mel

  • Hi Dan

Thanks - I tried method 2 but no luck. I tried it yesterday as well, same result.

I get the activation wizard but it does not ask me for the product key as I thought it would

The other thing is that ,when it fails validation, it insists my copy is the standard edition (see below) and not the student/teacher version.

Also, I do not have another copy of MS office on this computer although it is running on another computer on my home network. However, I do not have these validation issues on the other computer.

Active scripting must be enabled to continue

Active scripting is currently disabled. Until you adjust your web browser settings to enable active scripting, the controls on this page may not work correctly.

Below is a list of the products that did not pass validation and instructions for addressing each product. Recommended approach:

    • If a single product did not pass validation, take actions outlined below to get genuine Office
    • If multiple products did not pass validation, identify your most needed Office product or suite and take actions outlined below to get genuine Office. Uninstall other, non-genuine Office products that are preventing you from passing validation.

    Microsoft Office Standard Edition 2003

Problem: The validation process could not be completed because a copy of Microsoft Office® on this computer has not been activated.

  • Mel,

Exactly what version do you have? Is it Home and Student and it is being reported by the MGA Diag wrong? I want to make sure I am understanding correctly.

    Thank you Mel,

    Stephen

  • Hi Stephen,

My version is the student and teacher edition 2003.

I still have all the original packaging but not the invoice as it was purchased by my daughter in the UK.

The diagnostic reports it as the Standard edition 2003 - 101 Not activated.

My installed programs list also shows it as the standard edition but I'm fairly sure this only occurred after I de-activated/re-activated as per your suggestion.

Is it possible to confirm which edition from the product key or COA?

    Hope this helps.

    Mel

Further to this post I downloaded a useful tool from { http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html } which displays my computer profile and product key for installed software.
I can confirm that it lists my office edition as student teacher and shows the correct product key.

  • Hi

I'm not sure if I've pushed the wrong button, or something, (most likely) but I seem to have been left hanging re my original question and subsequent posts.

Sorry to seem pushy but this office validation has been frustrating me for a week now.
