Validating Office 2003 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have two computers (1 work, 1 home) and two copies of office 2003. Recently had to reinstall office onto home computer and activated it ok. Tried to add outlook backup utility but failed the validation process - "office is not activated" (It is activated and in use). I thought i may have installed the work copy of Office and this had caused failure and so i uninstalled office and installed other copy of office but I am getting the same result. What can I do??

  • Hi Marc,

If the previous attempts to 'activate' were unsuccessful and you still receive the 'not activated' error when trying to validate, please try the following steps:

    1)     Go to:  C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Office\Data\
    2)     Delete the data.dat file.
    3)     This data.dat file is for Office (not OGA).
    4)     Once the file has been deleted, open an Office application such as MS Word and ACTIVATE it.
    5)     After product activation is successful, let’s try revalidating (this is the OGA part; Office Genuine Advantage):  http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/office/Validate.aspx?displaylang=en

Thanks and please let us know how this works!

    Thanks,
    Michelle

  • Hi Marc932,

Can you try the following for me?

    1)      Logon to the PC that is experiencing the notifications as a user with ADMIN rights.

    2)      Download the tool:   http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 click RUN.

    3)      When the tool loads, click CONTINUE.

    5)      From the Office tab, click the COPY button.

    6)      PASTE the entire results into a REPLY to this post.

I'll take a look at it and we'll go forward from there.

    Thanks,
    Michelle

  • Hi Marc,

Thanks for posting the diagnostic output.  It does confirm that the 'not activated' state is what appears to be causing the issue with validation.  It looks like FrontPage is the application that is not activated.  Can you try activating FrontPage and try validating again?

    Please let me know.

    Thanks,
    Michelle
