Cannot activate RRS feed

  • Question

  • Let's cut right to the chase.

    I cannot activate.

    I cannot purchase a subscription.

I cannot seem to get anything but useless canned answers.

Speak to me before I speak to Symantec.

  • Subscribe = Activate

After you install OneCare, it is in trial mode. From the download site, for 90 days, unless a previous installation was detected. From a retail CD, for 15 days.

Before expiration, you must activate your subscription. The link will be visible when you open OneCare by double clicking the OneCare icon in the system tray or launching it from the Windows Start Menu.

When you click the link, you will need to sign in with a LiveID - http://account.live.com if you do not already have one.

After you sign in, you will be presented with the option to activate with a credit card purchase or with a retail PIN/Token/Product Key.

Upon entry of the information, the activation message is returned to OneCare and you are done.

If you do not see a link to subscribe or activate, it is possible that your PC date and time are incorrect.

If you are performing a reinstall or an install to a 2nd or 3rd PC, you must activate with the same LiveID used to originally subscribe on the first PC.

  • Where is the activate button?

I only see subscribe...and it was a store purchase...so why do I have to pay more?

  • I have the trial version installed. Its up in several days. I bought a hard copy of one care. I try to use the suscribe and use the activation code that has a backwards E, nada. I try to un-install one care and that cripples my machine's secondary IDE making my CD/DVD drive unavailable. I have to do a system restore to get back the drive and I ma back in the same place.

so I cant un-install one care trial.
I cant use the purchased code on the trial.
I cant re-install the bought copy over the top of the existing installed trial copy.

About the only way I see is to do a complete fresh xp install. But I sure wont use one care after this unless we come up wiht a reasonable, doable, fix here.

    This is beyond disgusting.
hole MS can give some serviceable aid here,

  • I want to renew my Onecare & I logged in to http://account.live.com and I entered my credit card number to subscribe, even thought I really wanted to renew, and now it's been a couple weeks and my Onecare still says that I need to renew.

I have logged back in to http://account.live.com several times, and it always says I have already paid, but my actual Onecare software just keeps saying I need to renew.  How do I get the software to synch up with http://account.live.com to see I already paid?

There is no backwards E in the retail product key, so you may be looking at a 3 or some other character. I find that I need to use a magnifying glass to really see the key properly. And, that key is on the back of the CD holder in the newer packaging, just to make sure you are using the right set of 25 characters.

If you wish to uninstall and reinstall:

Uninstall OneCare once again and use the cleanup tool -

    http://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsOneCare/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=828910&SiteID=2

Then, use this utility from Doug Knox to restore your CD/DVD drives to Windows - http://www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts_desc/xp_cd_dvd_fix.htm

    Finally, reinstall, and activate.

If you need help in validating the retail key, please contact support.

Can you explain what happens when you try to subscribe from within OneCare? You will need to log in with a LiveID and then, since you have a retail copy, you will select the option to subscribe with a retail key/PIN.
