WGA fails after Virus/Spyware removal RRS feed

  • Question

  • I had a virus/malware on a system with Windows XP SP3 and after succesfull removal WGA fails.

The WGA icon shows up in system tray and shows a pop up window from time to time.

Starting the WGA process return the error: "Your windows version did not pass WGA because WGA could not be finished"

All steps from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822798/en-us have been tried but gave no result.

WindowsXP-KB905474-ENU-x86-Standalone.exe fails to install: "We are unable to determine..."

There was a test for WGA setup on some Microsoft site that was completed succesfully.

I would appreciate any ideas. Thank your very much, Stephan
