Howto deploy workstation node unattended through CLI RRS feed

  • Question

  • Dear fellow forum users,

I am using WDS with MDT to deploy HPC nodes in our company environment. I know that the headnode has the functionality at hand, but as we already had a WDS i am using it for the same purpose.

I am struggling a bit with scripting an unattended installation of the 2008 ENT HPC Pack.

What i am trying to accomplish is to install the HPC pack unattended, installing the node as a Workstation node and joining it to a head node called dkbdkb7gaa.

I have tried the following - but it does not seem to Work properly.

    "setup.exe -unattend -workstationnode:dkbdkb7gaa"

When running this during the MDT task sequence i get return error 10.

Does anyone know how to do this properly?

  • Is it because the server at this stage of the deployment is not joined to the domain?

Is it a requirement that the server is domain-joined and can access the head node?

  • Although HPC itself supports baremetal deployment by WDS, it's also an approach to deployment nodes by other ways including existing WDS.

Your commandline to install workstation node shoudl be right. Please make sure the node is domain joined before kicking off the HPC installation commandline.
