Storage Controller Driver Install Process RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • I have two Silicon Image SATA controllers, the Si3114 and the Si3112. This of course requires me to load the drivers before install. Unfortunately, I had to provide two different disks no less than 3 times during setup!

    1) During the initial "friendly" install.

    2) During the "classic" SBS2003 install by pressing F6 (otherwise I'm greeted by BSOD). This install is launched after the first reboot of the friendly install, so I thought it would use the previously selected drivers, but no such luck.

    3) During the "classic" install when the copy process begins.

The friendly install kindly let me select the drivers from a floppy I had made which included both sets, but because of the classic install process, I later had to create separate floppies for each driver.

Overall, this process is very clunky. Six floppy swaps is about as inelegant as it gets. Ideally, I'd like to provide the drivers once during the first install screen via a USB flash drive and be done with it.
