  • The live operator should NOT transfer you back to the automated service - they are there for the ones that service doesn't work for - for whatever reason.

Try again and insist that they do their job - or pass you to a supervisor.

Activation only came in with XP in 2001 so anything prior to that is pretty much irrelevant in these terms. I've had less problems with Windows 7 than any prior OS, personally - although the general level of queries I deal with seems to have gone up, I think it's for two reasons.

    1) there are a lot more PC's around

    2) the general willingness of the owner to sort their own problems out has gone down - as has the ability to do so, at least for the more recent entrants.

  • Recreate the Licensing Store with the correct data.

    1) Open an Internet Browser window.

    2) Type: %windir%\system32 into the browser address bar.

    3) Find the file CMD.exe

    4) Right-Click on CMD.exe and select 'Run as Administrator'

    5) Type: net stop slsvc (it may ask you if you are sure, select yes)

    6) Type: cd %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareLicensing

    7) Type: rename tokens.dat tokens.bar

    8) Type: cd %windir%\system32

    9) Type: net start slsvc

    10) Type: cscript slmgr.vbs -rilc (It may take a long time for this to complete, please be patient)

    11) Restart your computer twice.

You may be asked to enter your COA Key and/or Activate. – if asked for the Key, use the one on your COA sticker on the machine’s case (you may need to activate by telephone).

Once complete, run another MGADiag report and post back with the results.

  • Thank you.

I did as requested, however I had to manualy rename tokens.dat to tokens.bar.  I resisted entering the COA Key or activating online and rebooted twice.  Then I did both and used the automated tele actvation, still no joy, says confirmation ID does not match, I am sure it is typed correctly, I have done it numerous times.

  • In that case, use Telephone Activation.

    telephone activation (operator calls)

    Click on the Start button

    in the Search box, type

    SLUI   4

    and hit the Enter key

follow the instructions, but when asked which service you require by the telephone ansafone, do NOT reply - this should force an operator to respond, who can deal with you

I have tried that, give number to "live" operator get transferred  to automated service to repeat same number as automated call did.

I have used Windows since 3.0 this is the worst time I have ever had.  BTW, I build my own box, have for the last fourteen years, no need to refer me to the Manufacturer.

    Thanks
