Why doesn't my Vista Media Center sleep after back up? RRS feed

  • Question

  • After I configured my Home Server to back up my Vista Media Center it no longer goes to hybrid sleep (it used to work fine). In power options it is set to sleep after 20 minutes, but in the morning the PC is still running, logged in and ready to show my Recorded TV.

My other PC (XP) has goes to sleep after the back-up, but it is configured to hibernate after 30 minutes, and it does not do that.

Is there any settings I can set on the Home Server?

In general I am concerned about the power consumption in a Home Server setup. In these days with climate changes and CO2 emissions going sky high, power savings should be a top priority in these products.

With the current solution I have the home server running 24-7 and using around 60-70 watt, while my media center is on all night (until I turn it off manually in the morning) using around 70 watt. That is a lot for a "secure" file share and a automatic back-up system, it is too much.
