OneCare cannot see my WD external back up drive RRS feed

    I have back up my hard drive to an external drive.  My hard drive went bad and I replaced it.  I have reinstalled one care, and set the externa hard drive as the back up for the new hard drive.  I now go to one care to restore the files to the new hard drive, but the restore does not "see" the external hard drive.  I can see the external hard drive  on my computer.  I have rebooted several times, and turned it on/off, and one care still does not "see" it, just gives me the option of using the CD/DVD as the source for back up.

    Try this:

    Configure backup on the restored PC and create/save a plan that backs up to that external drive, but select a file type under "what" that results in a very small backup. Exclude files and folders if needed. Run this small backup. Once the small backup has completed, try the restore again - custom restore from another computer:
