Is it ok to sleep internal harddrives in WHS?

  I have a WHS installation with 4 harddrives in it and it works fine, but in order to save power I have set the harddrives to sleep after 45 minutes.

  Is that the right way to go?

  Is any other time interval more suitable?

   

  On top of my head I can think of one reason not to do it; frequent "balancing" and "chkdsk" will make the harddrives to power-down and power-up so frequently that it will, in the long run, damage them. Is that correct?
