  • It looks as lif you have more than one problem!

At a guess, you've had a malware infestation - what Anti-Virus are you using (including version number) - what other anti-virus programs have ever been installed?

Please run the following commands in an Elevated Command Prompt window, and post the results....

    NET START SLSVC
    NET START VSS
    NET START WUAUSERV
    NET START BITS
    NET START BFE
    NET START SPLDR
    NET START WINDEFEND

Here are some instructions to make life easier :)

    1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the CP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.

    2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.

    3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.

  • Typing in a command prompt
    net helpmsg 52
    returns
You were not connected because a duplicate name exists on the network. If joinin
g a domain, go to System in Control Panel to change the computer name and try again.  If joining a workgroup, choose another workgroup name.

  • I think this is one of those messages that means different things in diferent contexts - It'll be interesting to see what's returned by a NET START command

(nice you see you still about!)

[edit] - OK I just realised, it WAS from an NET START command! [/edit]

  • The error seemed so specific. Lets hope he is on a network and has  a duplicate named computer.

The file mismatch is also a specific error.

  • The block of errors being as it is suggests either corruption in the licensing store, or an unregistered dll file somewhere - combined with the other errors, it suggests some heavy problems somewhere.
