Is waking clients for backup instigated from the server or from the client launchpad RRS feed

  • Question

  • Just wondering whether any knows whether the waking of clients for automatic backup is a push or pull arrangement.

Does the server wake the client at backup time or does the client connector wake up the machine and then poll the server asking to be backed up?.

I suspected/thought it was all controlled from the server, rather than the client connector. But wondered whether anyone knew for sure.

The reason for the query is while looking at some suggestions, that may have helped other posts on the forum, found that if you want to toggle whether a client is woken up or not for backup, it is actually done on the client launchpad rather than in the dashboard. This seems to indicate it is controlled from the client.

    Just curious.

  • Client wake-up is based on task scheduler (it's a task with wake-up option set). Task scheduler itself uses a wakeable timer.

  • I believe it is controlled form the client.  I say this because I have had my server shut down, and still notice my clients waking up at about the same time even though the server isn't on the network.
