The system cannot find the path specified

Question
-
I am running the latest Vail beta in a VM and was getting a "The Environment is Incorrect" error on "Restore Files or Folders". I followed steps to resolve this error and now I get "The restore process did not succeed. The system cannot find the path specified" error. No info on "Search for a solution to this problem" and I did not find any postings with this error. Any ideas?
Thanks

Could you please submit a bug on Connect?

I have posted the bug on Connect. It is strange since when I ran the previous, "original" beta I had no problems. I was happy since I had given up all hope with WHS v1 as it always got stuck at 81% when trying to examine the backups. Nothing I tried (and I tried everything I could find) fixed this. So when the original beta of Vail worked with no problems, I was looking forward to running the latest version. But, alas, it seems to have its own problems.

It's a beta. You expected perfection? :)
Honestly, though, I haven't done a restore with the very latest version; I've had to put off laying it down on real hardware until this weekend. So I can't give you a workaround (if I even find I have a problem with restoring).

Perfection---no. But since the first beta release seemed to work well I had high hopes that I wouldn't run into major problems with the latest. I just hope that the final release doesn't have too many problems. Right now I backup my machines using a full imaging or differential imaging program to a Freenas server running on a spare computer. Even though the Freenas backup solution installed very easily without any problems I would like to move to Vail when, and if, it actually works and is stable since it is a better solution to what I need done. It would be nice to get some clue from the error message so I can try and fix things but there is no place that I can find that addresses this "cannot find path" message.

Hi,
I think this is a known problem I bugged on connect as feedback ID#587908
The report also gives a possible work around.- Theo.

Thanks for your post. However, the feedback you referred to concerns the "Environment is Incorrect" error. I "fixed" that by following the steps outlined in the workaround. However, now I get "The System cannot find the path" error. That is where I am stuck. I will send a log file to MS and see if they can figure out what is going wrong. If you have any suggestions on the latest error message, I would appreciate it.

Hello Mike,
OK.
Then I suppose your problem is caused by something else. I'm not sure but I think (hmmm... where I have seen this error....) the "The System cannot find the path" error night be related to the "Environment is Incorrect" issue. Best to let MS checkout your logs and hopefully find out what's actually going on.In the meantime (as you probably allready did) double-check that the 'Windows Server Solutions Computer Restore Driver' is there and also the version of the BackupReader.sys is 6.1.7646.0?

Yes, I checked to make sure that Windows Server Solutions Computer Restore Driver' is there and that the version of the BackupReader.sys is correct. The MS Connect group asked me to install the new log file generator and send the log file to them. However, while the program installed correctly on the server, and seemed to run properly, it did not generate a log file where it said it would (or anywhere else I could find), so I cannot send them the log file. I hope that they figure out what to do to fix the problems, but I fear that they are a long ways away from being able to release an actual, usable product.
Thanks for your help.
