  • Question

  • My beta subscription is about to run out.  I have not been able to renew because I seem to have thrown out the original PIN.  (I have the one for the activate and printer sharing but, of course that won't work.)

What do you advise?  Do I need to uninstall everything and start again as a new subscriber?

  • Your paid subscription to 1.6 or a subscription for the beta 2.0?

To renew your paid subscription, go to http://billing.microsoft.com - sign in with your LiveID, click renew on the OneCare subscription and provide payment information or a retail product key from a store bought copy.

If it is the beta, uninstall, reinstall and don't activate.

  • Thanks Steve.  It's the 2.0 beta.

  • This problem has been driving me crazy. If the solution is this simple " If it is the beta, uninstall, reinstall and don't activate." Why isn't this posted on the first page when downloading the beta?

I have two machines running 32 and one 64, so I have been excited about the 2.0 beta since it handles all of my machines. But the nagging reminder to renew is driving me crazy. I think I have paid up for about 3 years now trying to make this go away and reinstalled OC about 3 times.

If you are using the beta of 2.0 on your machines, you can't be paying for the subscription as there is no payment option for activation. If you are using 1.6 from http://onecare.live.com (which you can't be on the x64 machine since only the beta works on that platform) then you could be activating and paying or renewing. Check the status of your production subscription at http://billing.microsoft.com

Oh, and the information to not activate the beta unless you were sent a special test key to use, is in the announcements section of the Install/Activate topic folder above.
