error "update package could not be opened" on installing CRM4 RRS feed

  • Question

  • CRM4 asks to look for updates before installing. So I say yes, CRM downloads updated package (used to take longer in the past) and then on installation start reports error "update package could not be opened". Why? How to solve?

I am logged in with domain account with full aministrator rights as well as local administrator rights.
I removed the files from the temporary internet files folder (esp. the contents.IE5 folder) before downloading (since I installed CRM before on this machine).
Diskspace reserved for temporary internet fles is set to maximum: 1024Mb, this setting has worked before.
    Internet Explorer version is 7.0
I had somewhat similar problems before after having done another previous crm install, which could then be solved by removing the contents of the temporary internet files folder, but now it's a bit dfferent. The download of the crm update package doesn't take as long as it does when it works properly.

server is running server 2008 and SQL 2008 standard and WSS 3.0 ...

  • Does you server have proper internet connectivity?  It is possible that the connection is failing and that may lead to the error.  If you need the update (which for SQL 2008 is true), then you can also try pre-downloading the update MSP file and using the command-line install to point to that downloaded file via the Patch node in the install config file.

  • Hi R,

I would just continue the installation without updating the package. After the installation, then install the latest roll-up for CRM.
