Failure to Validate RRS feed

  • Question

  • Please forgive me if this has been asked before, but I need to obtain the documentation from Microsoft that the Product Key I used for my Windows XP Professional SP2 would not validate because it was randomly generated by a third party and not Microsoft.  This message displayed on the screen and I was offered the opportunity to get the WGA Kit (which I gladly did).  Unfortunately, I cannot find my printout of the reason for non-validation page and I need it to report the seller to ic3.gov (a division of the FBI for online counterfeit software).  My question is this, is there someone at Microsoft that I can contact and give them the counterfeit COA Product Key and get in writting the message that states the number is counterfeit and most likely generated by a third party and not a genuine Microsoft Product ID number?

Please visit http://www.microsoft.com/piracy/ and file a piracy report. This will be reviewed by the specialists here. Curious can you please share with me where you purchased the copy of Windows Operating System? Do you have the name of the company, email address, phone number or Website? If so please provide this information to me here.

  • Steven,

I fully intend to report this as piracy to you, but I really need the information that I requested in my initial message so I can follow up with criminal procedings from my side too.  I want to get my money back if at all possible.  In answer to your questions:

The product was listed on ebay and I have already filed a complaint with their Traffic and Safety department.

The sellers contact information is:     Mark Oriley

                                                          9203 Enchanted Grove

                                                          Las Vegas, NV  89149

No phone number given or on record with ebay

                                                          wakeupearlyinthemorn@gmail.com

The cost of the product was $110.00

Seller would only accept Money Order or Cashiers Check (now I know why)

I must add this is without a doubt the best job of counterfeiting I have ever seen.  The only clue on the disk itself was the Microsoft hologram at the bottom of the disk did not change to GENUINE when the disk was moved around.  All other holograms and the wavey edge all appeared as they should.  The Certificate of Authenticity is harder to check since it was dated 2004 and prior to the examples you have on your site.  The Product ID is FFYKQ-KKHPJ-DTWYG-23TCV-X8BPQ.  Is there any way you can tell me how to get in writting from Microsoft that this is a counterfeit Product ID that was not generated by Microsoft?  The product is an OEM version that I installed on a system I built for a client.  It came shrink wrapped with the small blue, "For distribution only with a new PC", "start here", "Microsoft Windows xp Professional" manual. Once I opened the shrink wrap, I discovered there was no EULA in the package.  Thank you for your help.

  • Troedel,

Please download and run the utility at this link http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 , then click the Windows tab, Copy to Clipboard, then paste the report into a New Post on this Forum. This will allow me to analyze your system.

Step 2 is tell us about the COA. Tell us:
    1. What edition of Windows XP is it for, Home, Pro, or Media Center?
    2. Does it read "OEM Software" or "OEM Product" in black lettering?
    3. Or, does it have the computer manufacturer's name in black lettering?
    4. DO NOT post the Product Key.
    5. Please also provide a short description of the issue you are experiencing.

NOTE: The data collected with the Genuine Diagnostics Tool does NOT contain any information that can personally identify you and can be fully reviewed, by you, before being posted.

    Thank you,

    2.  The COA states Windows XP Professional OEM Software

    3.  There is no manufacture name on the COA

    4.  I am not having any issues now.  As I stated in an earlier post in this thread, this product would not validate (due to a counterfeit Product ID generated by someone other than Microsoft) so I purchased the WGA Kit and used the provided genuine Prodict ID to validate this program.  That's way everything shows valid now.

  • Steven,

Yes, I was willing to to this.  The Service Report # is 1052631278.  NOW, since I have done everything that you have requested, I would greatly appreciate you answering my original question.  Since I am getting legal assistance with this matter, I need the documented proof from Microsoft that the Product ID included with my software was counterfeit.  A simple email from you should serve the purpose.  I figure I am entitled to that much as a Registered Microsoft Partner.  Surley it cannot be that difficult to have your validation department check the Product ID FFYKQ-KKHPJ-DTWYG-23TCV-X8BPQ and print out the resulting message that it is counterfeit and not generated by Microsoft.  Please let me know if you need any further information.  Hopefully, I have given you everything you need in order to get an answer from you as soon as possible.  Thanks.

  • Trena,

Honestly I am not in any position to take any official stand regarding a lawsuit you intend to file. Although I checked the key which you provided and it is a keygen key which was not assigned by Microsoft. Please continue to follow up with the piracy case as I am sure you were provided information through an email.  Also as I mentioned previously I have provided this information up my channels.

    Thank you,
