  • Yesterday a friend of mine called me and told me horrible news about his HP Media Smart Server, someone broke into his house and took all four hard drives. He said that they did not take the actual server nor other computers because he had them secure. This got me thinking about my server I have the same scenario everything is locked down including my xbox 360, but I am tying to find a way to secure the HD of the Media Smart Server.

Has anyone found a good way to do this?

How about a home server about the same size that the hard drives are lockable?

I hope that hp and others start thinking about this issue because the point of the server is to secure your data.

  • Now you're making reconsider the case I bought for my own custom WHS.
I've seen some cases with front doors, though few with full locks. Even fewer that thread a security cable through so you keep them from prying the door open.

I personally use some 5-in-3 bays and would love to see them with better locking mechanisms. I haven't seen one that is truly effective. I expect OEM WHS manufacturers have the same problem.
