How to add a single common file to a large number of projects RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi there, I'm not sure which forum would be the most suitable to post the following question:

I would like to add a common file (for version control) to a large number of project...we're talking about 20+ solutions with nearly 500 projects. Visual Studio allows me to manually add files for each project individually but apprently this is very time consuming to process 500 projects.

I guess probably the best way is to batch edit .csproj file, and add a code block like <compile include='xx'><link>xx</link></compile>, unfortunately I'm not an expert on XML and have no idea how to insert this piece into the .csproj where both <reference> and <compile> are under the same node <ItemGroup> but in different positions in the file.

Please can someone point me the right direction to solve it and any assitance is very much appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

    Life is simple.
