Symbolic Links and Junctions Points in WHS Backups RRS feed

    Hello,

    I want to know if Symbolic Links, Hard Links and Junctions Points from a Windows Vista client pc are properly managed and can be restored by WHS?

    Specifically those kinds of links that we can found in C:\ProgramData and C:\Users.

    Because disks are backed up cluster by cluster, not file by file, they should be handled properly if you use the "bare metal" restore capability. However, since single file restore can restore a file to any location, you should not count on them to work correctly after restoring them.

    I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)

    Hi Ken,

    Thank you very much for your clear explanation: I didn't find the answer in the documentation: it doesn't say (explicitly) how links and junctions are handled.
